FERRUM, Va. -- Less than 24 hours after being beaten by Roanoke College, Covenant hung with Ferrum College before the Panthers took the contest over with a big second half that propelled them to a 72-52 win. The loss for the Scots puts them at 4-8 for the season, while Ferrum goes to 7-4 with the win.

It was a tale of two halves on this day. In the first 20 minutes, Covenant looked to have bounced back nicely from a rough outing the previous day. The Scots scored first on a 3-pointer from Colton McGriff and stuck with the host Panthers throughout the half. Trailing 26-22 with 6:36 left in the first half, Covenant rattled off a 10-0 scoring run, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Rosbie Mutcherson and Bryant Engbers. Ferrum came back and took a 33-32 lead going into halftime.

Ferrum would not allow Covenant to hang around for long in the second half, however. The Panthers took a 36-36 tie and made it into a 48-36 advantage in a span of five minutes early in the second half. The Scots could get the deficit back under double digits just one more time in the final 14:23 of the game. Ferrum would lead by as many as 20 points late in the half.

Callum Sears led Covenant with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting, while dishing out three assists and collecting two steals. McGriff tallied 12 points and seven rebounds with Engbers and Mutcherson chipping in six points each.

Ferrum was led in scoring by Lamont King and his 19 points. Daryl Hart added 16 points and Keith Crump scored 12 points. Marcus Mayo recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists, while grabbing four steals.

The Scots will stay on the road for a rematch with Sewanee on Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. Covenant defeated the Tigers on Nov. 29 by a score of 81-71.
