Covenant Sends Seniors Out With Resounding Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- A bittersweet match on Tuesday night went well for the Covenant volleyball team as the Lady Scots seniors played in their final home match of their careers.  The contest against Tennessee Wesleyan College couldn't have gone much better as the Lady Scots won all three games (25-6, 25-11, 25-5), with major contribution coming for the six soon-to-be Covenant grads: Erica Adams, Kristin Dahlstrand, Kait Glass, Jessie Jakes, Lisa Solis, and Emily Stewart.  Covenant improves to 22-7 on the season while remaining at 7-1 in the Great South.  TN-Wesleyan drops to 5-21.

Senior Emily Stewart led the attack with nine kills.  The offense did quite well earning a total attack percentage of .483 for the evening.  Dahlstrand earned 17 assists to allow for the offense to attack.  Covenant had five blocks, with Glass recording two solo and one assisted.  TN-Wesleyan had a total of one as a team.  Rachele Moretto led the Lady Bulldogs attack with four kills.

"We, as coaches, knew we had a very talented recruiting class in 2008," said head coach Heather Taylor, "but it took them a while for them to see their own potential.  Once they caught the vision though, great things started happening, and it would be hard to say too much about what these girls have done to help build Covenant's volleyball program.  Several of them have played virtually every minute of every match since they set foot on the mountain.  It's fitting that they finish their careers with such an impressive regular season record[...]Hopefully we're not done, though!  The goal is to still be playing in December!"

Jakes ended the night with seven kills; Solis had seven assists.  The seniors combined for an attack rate of .490, 12 service aces, and only six total errors for the entire night.

The first game started off with Covenant scoring 15 straight points.  Finally, a TN-Wesleyan timeout helped to end that streak, though the Lady Scots eventually won 25-6.  The second game was better for TN-Wesleyan but still not enough to come up with a win.  The final game was similar to the first, with the Lady Scots earning an 8-point streak to end the game.

Covenant's next competition will be in Indiana where they will play in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament on Thursday and Friday, November 17-18.
