Volleyball Sees Early Exit in Mid-East Region Tournament

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- The Covenant Lady Scots volleyball team suffered a pair of tough losses to end their season Thursday afternoon at the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament.  Covenant fell to the tournament's #1 seed in Asbury University in straight sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-10) before dropping another 3-setter to #4 Trevecca Nazarene University (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) shortly thereafter.

Covenant's tournament hopes were high as the Lady Scots posted 22 wins this season – the most from any of head coach Heather Taylor's teams – but an unfavorable draw doomed a Covenant team which will lose six seniors.

Those six Lady Scots accounted for 43 of Covenant's 51 kills in the two matches on Thursday.  Jessie Jakes tallied 16 of them and Emily Stewart had 12.  Kristin Dahlstrand earned 33 assists (18 against Asbury followed by 15 against Trevecca), but Covenant's offense never was able to get moving.  The Lady Scots hit a dismal .059 for the tournament and committed 38 errors on the attack alone.  Asbury, who has been ranked as high as #4 in the nation this year in the NCCAA, took full advantage of Covenant's 38 total errors, and things did not get much better for the Lady Scots against Trevecca.  The host Lady Trojans forced the Lady Scots into 41 more errors and eventually delivered the knockout.

Asbury University went on to win the region title and will advance into the NCCAA national tournament later this season.  The Lady Scots outstanding season has come to an end with a record of 22-9 overall and 7-1 in Great South action.
