LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Lady Scots soccer team had their second biggest win in front of their largest crowd of the season Saturday evening. Margaret Cross, Kara Lee, Kathryn Allison, Dana Streufert, and Mary Buys all had goals in the 5-0 defeat of local Tennessee Temple University for the 2011 Homecoming. With the victory, Covenant improves to 4-6-1 on the season, having won its last three matches. TN-Temple drops to 1-12.
Senior Margaret Cross found her second goal of the season in the 10th minute after finishing off a Teagan Wood crossing pass. Lee would be next in the scoring line, nearly 25 minutes later, to put the game at 2-0.
After the break, the Lady Scots made it three when Kathryn Allison- in the 53rd minute- split a set of Lady Crusader defenders, took a shot that rebounded off the save of 'Temple goalkeeper Jess Salera, then cleaned up the rebound for her first goal of the season.
Dana Streufert's goal came in the 77th minute on a corner kick delivered by Eliza Drew. Mary Buys had one on a breakaway in the 81st.
The Lady Scots tallied 33 shots on the game, 16 of which went on frame. Salera had 11 saves, 8 in the second half. Drew and Amy Dykstra each had shots miss the mark by mere inches, rattling the woodwork late in the game.
Covenant controlled the possession and found itself rarely challenged. The Lady Crusaders did not manage a single shot during the contest.
The Lady Scots will return to action on Wednesday, October 12 where they will begin a series of road matches at conference foe Piedmont College. They will return home on Tuesday, October 25.
