MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Covenant women's volleyball team took two conference wins over the weekend, defeating LaGrange (25-9, 25-21, 25-20) and Huntingdon (25-17, 25-13, 25-17) Colleges to improve to 16-6 on the season. Covenant, while dropping LaGrange to 13-11 (4-2 GSAC) and Huntingdon to 7-20 (1-5 GSAC), improves its conference record to 6-1. Neither the Lady Panthers nor the Lady Hawks could stop the Lady Scots as they continue to do well this season.
The first match of the day, against LaGrange, was a decisive win. Covenant earned 10 blocks compared to LaGrange's one. Emily Stewart led the attack along with Erica Adams, earning 10 and nine kills, respectively. LaGrange's Katie Covington earned eight kills. The first game was well-played for Covenant. The score was 11-9 in the Lady Scots favor before they proceeded to score 14 consecutive points to end the game. The next two games were much closer, though, but Covenant still earned the win.
The next match against Huntingdon was impressive for the Lady Scots as well. This time Jessie Jakes and Stewart (11 kills apiece) led the attack along with Adams (nine kills). Huntingdon was able to keep up with blocks, earning seven to Covenant's six. Diane Humphreys was the leading attacker for Huntingdon, earning six kills. Though the Lady Scots did not have as impressive a run as the previous match, the game was mostly theirs as they shut down Huntingdon's offense.
