LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Tuesday was a crazy night of volleyball for the Lady Scots.  With a boisterous home crowd, they played a suspenseful set of games against Piedmont College and earned the win by some ground shaking hits.  Piedmont was able to win 1 to Covenant's 3 games (25-23, 25-12, 23-25, 25-20).  The Lady Scots improve to 12-6 (5-2 GSAC) while Piedmont is dealt its first conference loss of the season (17-8, 7-1 GSAC).

The first game was a close one that went down to the wire.  Toward the end, Covenant was in the lead 24-19 but let Piedmont earn four straight points.  Emily Stewart ended that streak and the game with one of her eight kills.  The second game was dominated by Covenant, starting with six straight points and ending 25-12.  Timeouts were essential for both teams for the night as they tried to stop each other's timely runs.

The third game was extremely close, and the lead went back and forth between Covenant and Piedmont.  Though the game was a win for Piedmont, Jessie Jakes and Erica Adams made things interesting with two straight kills to bring the score from 24-21 to 24-23.  The final game had almost all the fans on their feet as Piedmont's chance at a fifth was crushed.  Covenant took the lead at 9-8 and never gave it up.

Jakes (16), Adams (15) and Kait Glass (11) all had big kills against the Lady Lions.  Kristin Dahlstrand earned almost all the assists for the whole night, coming up with a total of 44.  Covenant tallied 10 blocks, though Piedmont earned 11.  Nearly the entire team contributed to the digs total of 82.

Rachel Powell led the Lady Lions with 9 kills.  Katie Byrd came up with a team-leading 17 digs along with 8 kills herself.  Katheryn Knarr and Ashton Nash split the time at setter, earning 18 and 10 set assists, respectively.

Covenant's next game is at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 as they will travel to Reinhardt University.
