Rome, GA- Seventh inning singles from Caleb Abney and Brandon Hagopian helped fuel a 5 run rally for the Scots, but it was not enough to overcome Berry College's 10 run effort Wednesday afternoon. Viking starter Scott Pollock (1-1) was credited with the win after his 6 inning, one hitter that included sitting down 14 straight Scots, and Andre Glover (0-1) was given the loss despite only two innings on the mound.
Berry center-fielder Harman Watkins dealt the most damage for the Vikings, going 4 for 5 with 3 stolen bases, 2 runs, and an RBI, and teammate Mitch Terry followed suit going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, and a run scored.
Ultimately, Covenant's inability to get going offensively proved to be the difference in the game. Jonathan Carter, James Rollins, Justin Carruth, Kurtis Wiles, and Harrison Fisher were each issued walks which helped with the near comeback late in the game, but Abney, Hagopian, and Jared Carlson were the only three Scots to record a hit.
Covenant will return to action at home on Saturday for their home opener against Berea College. First pitch for the double-header is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
