Senior Night A Success For Lady Scots

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- In front of the largest crowd this season at Barnes Gymnasium, the Covenant Lady Scots played their final home match of the season Wednesday night against former Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Tennessee Wesleyan College.  Covenant handled the Lady Bulldogs from Athens, Tennessee easily, winning in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-16) to finish the year 6-4 at home.

As is the case with most final home games, Covenant held its Senior Night ceremony before the match started.  Emily Dupree was the lone senior for the Lady Scots this season.  The right side hitter from Knoxville, Tennessee was honored before the match for her accomplishments on and off the court for the Lady Scots volleyball program.  Dupree finished her final match at home with a solid night with 2 kills and 4 digs.

The Lady Scots struggled out of the gate as they fell behind 9-3 in the opening set.  Covenant did not take the lead until Emily Stewart got a kill with an assist from Kristin Dahlstrand to put the Lady Scots up 18-17.  From there, Covenant cruised to the end when Dahlstrand recorded a kill for herself to end the set and give the Lady Scots a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Scots jumped out to a quick lead in the second set and never relinquished it as the Lady Bulldogs could not get a consistent rally started.  After winning the second set, Covenant used two big spurts in the third set to put the match away.  The Lady Scots scored nine straight points in the middle of the set and then ended the game with a 6-1 run to win the match and send the fans back home happy.

Emily Stewart led all players with 11 kills as Jessie Jakes chipped in with 7 kills and 7 digs.  Kristin Dahlstrand had 27 assists and Paige Cheney led the Lady Scots (18-12) with 10 digs.

Tennessee Wesleyan (4-21) was led by Diamon Darden and her 8 kills and 7 digs.  Cassie Swinney added 20 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.

Covenant will take its 18-12 record on the road Saturday afternoon when they visit NAIA member Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia at 12:30pm.  Reinhardt defeated the Lady Scots 3-2 in their previous meeting this year.
