ATLANTA -- Coming off of a tough, five set loss to Reinhardt University just five days earlier, the Covenant Lady Scots volleyball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to face off against Oglethorpe University Lady Petrels.
Things did not look good early on for the Lady Scots as they dropped the first two sets, but Covenant rallied back and won the final three sets, including a resounding 15-3 romp in the fifth set, to claim the match 3-2 (24-26, 22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 15-3). With the win, Covenant ends the regular season at 19-13.
Jessie Jakes and Erica Adams each tallied 13 kills for the Lady Scots, with Jakes contributing 11 digs as well. Paige Cheney had a team high 24 digs on the night while Estes Carlson chipped in with 19 digs. Kristin Dahlstrand continued her outstanding season as she recorded another 43 assists. On the year, Dahlstrand has amassed 951 assists, an average of 8.06 per set. Those numbers were the highest among Great South competititors.
With the regular season over with, Covenant will turn its attention to the postseason. Although still waiting on eligiblility to participate in the NCAA DIII tournament, the Lady Scots will travel to Bristol, Tennessee to play in the NCCAA Mid-East region tournament hosted by King College this Friday and Saturday. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA Division I National Tournament held in Kissimmee, Florida December 2-4.
