LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Saturday was the last regular season home game for the Lady Scots and the last home game for seven seniors. For Aubrey Brown, Kasey Craft, Caitlin Ezell, Bethany Holman, Elisabeth Oates, Katie Robinson, and Jane Shibley, it was an afternoon full of memories, family and friends. Huntingdon College made the trip up from Montgomery, Alabama to take on the Lady Scots who were looking for another win at home this year.
As the Lady Scots took to the field for the last time at home this year, all seven seniors were present in the starting lineup. The modified lineup was one that seemed to be working for the Lady Scots with the majority of the possession on their attacking half. The aggressive nature lead to 4 corner kicks in the first eighteen minutes, but even though many were placed in the box, none were converted to goals. Senior Jane Shibley had the first two shots of the game, but Huntingdon's keeper Jenny Burnash saw both shots coming and didn't allow either one of them to get by.
In the thirty-fourth minute, the Lady Scots put some offense together with a great through ball from Dana Streufert to the breaking Lauren Probst resulting in the game's first goal and her tenth goal of the season. As the first half came to an end, the Lady Scots had accumulated 5 shots and 5 corner kicks, and they held the lead at 1-0. Yet again, the story was not the great offensive play, but rather the trademark lockdown defense that has almost become expected. With one half over, the Lady Scots defense did not allow much possession past half field and did not allow any shots to be taken on senior Bethany Holman.
With a 1-0 lead, the Lady Scots started the second half looking for more. In the first eight minutes, the Lady Scots put up three more shots almost totaling their amount in the first half. Huntingdon, finally breaking through the stellar defense, got a shot off, but Bethany Holman was ready and saved it without any problems.
The game was totally dominated by the Lady Scots from the seventy-sixth minute on. In the last fourteen minutes of the second half, the Lady Scots took eight more shots, including another goal by senior Kasey Craft. And with that goal, the lead was safe, and the senior class was able to leave having won their last game at Scotland Yard.
With the sound of the buzzer and the scoreboard reading 2-0, the seven seniors walked to the stands and received a loud ovation leaving only their legacies on the field. Aubrey Brown, Kasey Craft, Caitlin Ezell, Bethany Holman, Elisabeth Oates, Katie Robinson, and Jane Shibley have all had amazing careers and will be remembered and missed for years to come.
