HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The 2-0 victory over the UAH Chargers on Wednesday afternoon made it seven in a row for the Covenant Scots, who now ride an impressive 8-3 record into homecoming weekend. Seniors Brian Stair and David Pifer were the goal-scorers for the Scots on the day, with goals in the 12th and 42nd minutes respectively. Stair's goal arrived after the forward latched onto a corner-kick that Charger goalkeeper Tyler Earley could only manage to punch to the penalty spot. The senior quickly settled the ball, and then blasted it into the top corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. After missing several close-range chances throughout much of the first half, Covenant eventually got the insurance goal it was looking for when David Pifer ran onto younger brother Chris Pifer's through ball and delicately clipped it over the onrushing Earley to double the advantage. That "Pifer connection" provided the elder Pifer with his 6th goal of the season, and allowed the Scots to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The lead turned out to be one that Covenant never relinquished, as John Eger made five saves to help the defense record its sixth shutout of the season. The defense did suffer a casualty on the day, though, as Hunt Davidson was sent off in the 72nd minute with a red card for his second yellow. Even so, the Scots won the game 2-0 with ten men, and will now head into Saturday's homecoming clash with LaGrange nationally ranked and full of confidence. The game kicks off at 7:30pm.
