LAGRANGE, Georgia -- Sophomore forward Lauren Probst scored season goals number six and number seven in a 5-0 win on the road against LaGrange College (1-10, 0-2 GSAC) Tuesday evening as the Lady Scots move to 6-1-1 on the season. The game, which also recorded goals from Dana Streufert, Kara Lee, and Caitlin Ezell, was the 4th of the season to see 3 or more Lady Scots listed on the score sheet.
Although struggling to find a rhythm for the majority of the game, Covenant was able to convert 5 of their 18 shots into goals, the first of which came 23 minutes in when midfielder Dana Streufert blasted a shot from just inside the 18. The chance was set up nicely by defender Caitlin Ezell's corner kick, crossed in beautifully to the unmarked Streufert.
The Lady Panthers responded well though, warranting several breakaways via well-placed through balls and well-timed runs through the Covenant defense. The Lady Scots were up to each challenge, however, stifling each LaGrange opportunity and eventually building a 2-0 advantage at halftime thanks to Probst's 29th minute goal.
With adjustments made during the intermission, Covenant's attack earned 3 more goals in the second half and saw the shot count for LaGrange go from 5 in the first half to only 1 in the second. Indeed, goalkeeper Bethany Holman stood and watched for the greater part of the second half as the Lady Scots kept the possession on the opposite end of the field.
The victory gave Covenant its sixth shutout of the season, having blanked a team that has only managed one goal in the last 7 games and none in the last 4.
The Lady Scots will play Asbury University on Saturday, October 9 for this year's homecoming match. The 5:00pm game will be integrated with many of the annual festivities.
