LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Heading into Tuesday evening's home game against the Maryville College Lady Scots, Covenant College's own Lady Scots were an impressive 7-1-1 on the season and undefeated at home on Scotland Yard. But with the fall season now underway, many things – the leaves, the temperature, the daylight – are beginning to change, and unfortunately for Covenant, change was in the air on Tuesday afternoon.
On this particular evening, the Lady Scots lost their first home game of the season 3-0 to Maryville College, and conceded more goals in this single match than they had throughout the prior 9 games of the season. Ashley Howarth scored a hat-trick to effectively win the "Scots" battle for Maryville, with the most backbreaking of those three goals coming with just a minute left to play in the first half. Howarth then scored her remaining two in the second half off of two Jessica Petersen crosses to all but ensure the victory. In the end, Maryville out-shot Covenant 10-4, and the losing Lady Scots seemed just a distant threat throughout much of the match.
Now 7-2-1 on the season, the Lady Scots will be looking to rebound from their losing performance when they take on Sewanee at home this Friday at 5:00pm.
