On Saturday afternoon, the Scots came out ready to win two. In game one of the doubleheader, the Scots put on quite the show with the bats: Fisher (2-4, double), Oldham (2-3, triple, 3 RBI), Carlson (3-3, 3 singles, 2 RBI), Newton (3-4, double, RBI), Hogan (1-2, 2 RBI), J. Frederick (1-3), O'Ban (2-3). In the second inning, the Scots opened up a lead. Newton started things off with a double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a groundball to the shortstop. O'Ban led the third inning off with a single; Fisher came up with the double; Oldham connected for the RBI single; and Carlson executed the safety squeeze. In the fourth inning, J. Frederick, O'Ban and Fisher singled. Pope hit the sac fly to score Frederick, Oldham hit a sac fly to score O'Ban, and Carlson hit the RBI single to score Fisher. In the sixth inning, the Scots put the game out of the Lion's reach. Pope started it off with a hit-by-pitch followed by Oldham's RBI triple and Carlson's RBI single to score Oldham. Newton hit a seed to right field setting Hogan up for his 2 RBI double. With a quite comfortable lead, the Scots pitching staff still barred down to hold the Lions off. Chris Henegar went six innings allowing only three earned runs and striking out seven batters. Nolan Gray shut the door in the seventh inning to seal the victory 11-5.
In the following game, the Scots got it done at the plate once again: Fisher (1-3, 2 RBI), Oldham (1-2, RBI), Hogan (1-2, RBI double), Newton (1-2), J. Greer (1-2, RBI), and O'Ban (2-2, RBI). The Scots didn't spread the scoring out so much but did the damage in the third inning. Fisher connected for the single followed by Oldham's RBI single. The two base error committed by Bryan's center fielder put Oldham on third setting Hogan up for the sac fly. Newton and Carlson then singled back-to-back followed by J. Greer's infield single. The performance of the bats was matched by Demarius Johnson's start on the mound. Through six innings of work, he struck out three batters and allowed no earned runs. McDowell followed suit for the final inning for the save in the 7-2 win.
On Monday afternoon, the Scots came out and pounced on the Lions 14-2. Once again, the bats came out swinging: (O'Ban 2-4, double, 4 RBI), Pope (2-4, 3 RBI), Carlson (2-4, double, HR, 2 RBI), Furuto (2-3, 1 RBI), Whitehead (1-1). It all started in the second inning with Newton and Furuto's back-to-back walks. Whitehead sac bunted them over, and Fisher's fielder's choice scored Newton. O'Ban's double then scored Furuto. Carlson then started off the third inning with a double. A throwing error on the back-pick allowed courtesy runner Hagopian to advance to third. Newton then walked and stole second base allowing Hagopian to score on the throw-down to second base. Furuto then came up with the RBI single to score Newton. In the fifth inning, the Scots put six on the board. Furuto connected for a single, Whitehead drew the walk, and Fisher sac bunted them over. O'Ban drove Furuto and Whitehead in with the double. Pope then found a hole in the infield for the RBI single. Oldham then drew the walk, and Hogan hit into a fielder's choice which scored. A little bit later, Carlson connected for a two-run HR. Once again the Scots proved their batting prowess, but it was starting pitcher Brent Neas who certainly showed the Lions his bulldog intensity. Neas got the complete game win in seven innings of work allowing only two earned runs on four strikeouts. The final score 14-2 then completed the sweep of rival Bryan College this season.
Now on a six game win streak, the Scots look forward to carrying this momentum into Tuesday's game @ NCAA D-1 Tennessee Tech University (5pm EST/4pm Central).
