Lookout Mountain, GA - Covenant scored just sixteen first-half points on the way to a 75-60 loss to the University of Virginia at Wise Wednesday night. The Scots did improve as the game went on, scoring 44 in the second half, but it was already too late as UVA-Wise grabbed the lead early and never looked back.
Davis Eldridge again led the Scots with sixteen points on 6-11 shooting. He made four of five three-point attempts but failed to reach the 20+ point mark for the first time in five games. Freshman
Matt Taylor had another impressive game on the heels of a fourteen point, ten rebound performance in Covenant's previous game against Maryville College playing a team-high 33 minutes, scoring twelve points on 6-8 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist. He also did not commit a turnover. Fellow freshman
Stephen Buchanan scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds in just eighteen minutes and sophomore Dominique McGaughhey had a good all-around game with seven points, four rebounds and six assists.
The Scots play their final game of the regular season this Saturday, February 21st at home against the Rams of Bluefield College at 7:30 PM. They will then take the court in the first round of the AAC tournament on Wednesday, February 25th.
