Lookout Mountain, GA - The Scots lost a heartbreaker Wednesday night to the Cavaliers of Montreat College, losing 66-63 after leading virtually the entire game. A last ditch attempt to tie the game and send it to overtime by sophomore Davis Eldridge came up short as Covenant fell to 2-24 on the season and 1-14 in conference play.
Eldridge, who scored a team-high 23 points on 8-15 shooting including seven three-pointers made, was the catalyst for the Scots' offense Wednesday while
Stephen Buchanan, the only other Scot in double-figures on the night, scored eleven points and grabbed four rebounds. Covenant, however, again showed a balanced offensive attack, with six players scoring at least six points.
Brock Barber, who was a force on the defensive end, tallying five blocks, contributed with four points.
Stephen Johnson, starting for the first time this season, played hard scoring seven points and grabbing eight rebounds and point guard Dominique McGaughhey had a good all-around game, finishing with six points, five rebounds, and seven assists.
The Scots have two more road games to play (at Union (Sat. Feb. 14), at Maryville (Mon. Feb. 16)) before returning home for their final two games of the season. With the conference tournament less than two weeks away, Covenant has shown improvement coming into the season's final stretch and will look to build on it in these last few games.
