Lookout Mountain, GA- After suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss to Union College on Saturday, the Covenant College Lady Scots soccer team entered Wednesday's AAC match against Tennessee Wesleyan with something to prove. Playing on Scotland Yard, and in what was just their second official home game of the season, the team needed little motivation to get on the board early. In fact, it took only 20 minutes for Covenant to score, as junior Aubrey Brown bagged her second goal of the season off a Jenny Carter assist. "The first half we came out really strong and controlled the pace of the game," said Carter, "the second half was a bit harder for us to find our rhythm, but we were able to regain our composure in the end." Indeed, just ten minutes into the second half, Covenant was called for a handball in the box and Wesleyan scored on the ensuing penalty kick to level matters at 1-1.
For the majority of the second half the two teams continued to battle, each earning nine shots at goal. However, Carter latched onto a Lauren Probst through ball and broke away from the Tennessee Wesleyan defense to score the game winner in the 81st minute. "We have a fairly young team, but I am really proud of how hard everyone has been working in order to find our unity on the field," said Carter after the game, "the team is a lot stronger than we have shown so far and I can't wait until we finally hit our stride!" The Scots will be looking to hit that stride and improve upon their 4-3-2 record this Saturday when they face King College at 3:30 for homecoming.
