Chattanooga, TN- The weather conditions have not been kind to the Lady Scots as of late, and Saturday's homecoming match proved to be no exception. Having already had to cancel or relocate multiple times this season because of rain, homecoming was supposed to give the Lady Scots a chance to play in front of a home crowd for just the third time this year. But, the weather would not comply, and Baylor High School would have to be home field as the Covenant ladies looked to make it a Scot's "sweep" of King College after the Covenant men had just won in the match before. Entering the game, the King women held an impressive 8-4 record and a #6 NCCAA ranking, but the Lady Scots were not to be intimidated. From the onset Covenant took the game to King, creating chances, and getting in behind the defense for eight shots in the first half. It was junior Aubrey Brown's shot that secured the opening goal for the Scots, though, as she slotted it home following a deflected Jenny Carter attempt. Moments later, freshman forward Kara Lee saw her well-struck shot rebound off the inside of the far post and roll antagonizingly across the goalmouth. King goalkeeper Lauren Fritts was quick to collect, though, and kept the Lady Tornado within one. Meanwhile, the Covenant defense held firm, with goalkeeper Bethany Holman making four saves to end the half at 1-0 in Covenant's favor. The beginning of the second half also proved favorable to the Lady Scots, as Jenny Carter's shot deflected off the underside of the crossbar to an awaiting Lauren Probst, who made no mistake in guiding the ball home for a 2-0 Scot's advantage. King refused to lie down, though, as they racked up 13 shots on goal compared to Covenant's 4 in the second half. And, in the 68th minute, they were able to capitalize, with Emma Wells scoring off a breakaway from ten yards out. The Lady Scots held their ground for the remainder of the match, though, and as the final whistle blew at Baylor Field, the score stood at 2-1 in Covenant's favor. With the homecoming victory, the Lady Scots have now moved to 5-3-2 on the season, and will look forward to their match against Mobile in Alabama next Saturday.
