Cleveland, TN- On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Scots faced by far their two toughest opponents of the season. With a combined 36-6 record, Emory University and Lee University have much to brag about: The Lady Eagles of Emory are currently ranked #3 in the nation among NCAA Division III teams and also flaunts a 12 match winning streak. The Lady Flames of Lee University, on the other hand, are ranked in the top 20 among NAIA schools in blocks per game, service aces per game, kills per game, and total team blocks.
In the day's first match, Covenant managed to steal the first set against Emory, winning it 25-22. However, too many team errors hindered the Lady Scots from continuing their success as Emory went on to win the next three sets 25-13, 25-11, and 25-18. In Covenant's second match, Lee's superior blocking held the Lady Scots to a season low 17 total kills in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Jessie Jakes currently leads the Lady Scots in total kills (172) and kills average (2.36 per set).
Covenant is now 6-14 and will travel to Clearwater, Florida over fall break to face more tough competition in Clearwater Christian College, Pensacola Christian College, and St. Petersburg College. The Lady Scots will return home on Saturday, October 24th to play former conference foe Virginia Intermont College.
