Lookout Mountain, GA - Senior guard Liz Martin scored 28 points and handed out five assists as the Covenant College women's basketball team beat Bryan College 70-62 on Saturday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
The Lady Scots (12-11, 6-6) had three players score in double figures with Martin leading the way, but two freshmen guards also stepped up big for Covenant, with Ashley Wilson having another complete night with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Margaret Cross finished with 12 points, including a big 3-point bomb that put Covenant ahead to stay at 59-56.
Forwards DeDe Walls and Erika Forland did a great job on the glass for the Lady Scots, pulling down nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Forland added five points, all down the decisive stretch, including an outstanding drive and finish and then three clinching free throws. Bryan College (13-11, 7-5) got 14 points from Katie Davis, while Jessica Southern added 12 points and five rebounds.
Covenant College will travel for two AAC road games next week, at Milligan on Wednesday night and at Virginia Intermont on Saturday, with both games starting at 5:30.
