Dayton, TN - Senior point guard Liz Martin had 29 points and nine assists as the Covenant College women's basketball team whipped Bryan College 88-76 on Wednesday night to move into sole possession of first place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
The Lady Scots (6-4, 3-0) trailed at the half 46-45, but improved their defensive and rebounding effort in the second half and pulled away for another conference road victory. Martin nailed five treys, was perfect on all eight of her attempts from the free throw line, pulled down five rebounds, and had two steals in another complete effort.
Junior guard Jessica Gowan had 18 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while freshman guard Ashley Wilson added 15 points. Freshman guard Kayla Sanders ripped down nine rebounds and played great defense, and forwards Erika Forland and DeDe Walls chipped in eight and seven points, respectively. Bryan College (5-5, 2-1) got 23 points from Katie Davis and 21 from Jessica Southern.
Covenant hosts Milligan College on Saturday afternoon in a 2:00 AAC contest.
