Lebanon, TN - Senior point guard Liz Martin scored 27 of her game-high 36 points in the second half, as the Covenant College women's basketball team scored 63 second-half points to rout Cumberland University 88-55 on Friday night. The Lady Scots (8-5) shot poorly in the first half and only made ten of nineteen free throws and went into halftime leading by one, 25-24. But for the second time in as many games, Covenant roared out of the locker room and never looked back. Scoring three more second half points than they did when they tallied 60 Tuesday night against Reinhardt College.
Martin finished with six three-point field goals, six steals, five rebounds and three assists to go with her scoring in an incredible performance in which she made twelve of seventeen shots from the floor, six of nine from the three-point line and six of eight from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Ashley Wilson, who scored 26 second half points in Tuesday's big second half at Reinhardt, had another great game with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Kayla Sanders and junior guard Jessica Gowan each scored seven points, with Gowan pulling down nine rebounds. Sophomore forward DeDe Walls had nine boards off the bench.
Covenant plays in a Saturday afternoon match-up at 1:00 PM against Trevecca Nazarene University, the #3-ranked team in NAIA Division I.
