LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The varsity men's basketball season got underway tonight with the Scots hosting the Tennessee Temple University Crusaders. The outcome was less than favorable, but the Scots showed promise in a game in which they were undersized and in which the visitors were able to knock down eleven three-pointers.
Trailing by fourteen at halftime, Covenant fought back and was able to outscore the Crusaders in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Scots ultimately fell by final score of 77-69. Leading the Scots was sophomore guard Davis Eldridge, who scored fourteen points on 5-13 shooting including 3-7 beyond the arc. Freshman guard J.R. Avery (12), senior forward Chris Hall (12), sophomore guard David Kennedy (10) and senior guard Reed Crosson (10) also reached double figures in scoring for the Scots. Hall and freshman forward Matt Taylor did a nice job on the boards, collecting eight rebounds apiece.
The Scots fall to 0-1 on the year but will look to bounce back in an early-season divisional matchup against King College that will take place at home on Friday, October 31, at 6:00 PM.
