Liz Wood was hired in July of 2023 as Assistant Basketball Coach

"I am excited to bring Coach Wood into our program as an assistant coach. It has been clear during the hiring process that she has a heart for pouring into student-athletes and disciple through the game of basketball," said Head Coach Kyle Yost. "Her experience as both a player and coach at the Division I level will help to bring fresh perspective and valuable knowledge to our staff."

Wood comes to Covenant after serving two seasons as a Graduate Assistant for UT-Chattanooga Women's Basketball. In the 2022-23 season, Wood was part of a coaching staff that led the Mocs to the Southern Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament birth. 

"I am beyond grateful to start this new journey with Covenant Women's Basketball! I would like to thank Coach Yost and Director of Athletics, John Hirte, for the opportunity to serve the Lord, this team, and Covenant," Wood said. "I am looking forward to pouring Christ's love into these ladies on & off the court!"

As a Graduate Assistant at UTC, Wood oversaw managers and practice players by delegating responsibilities and supervising execution. She was also the founder of Empow-HER at UTC, a mentorship focused on empowering student-athletes in their life journeys. Additionally, Wood coordinated marketing opportunities with the marketing department.

During undergrad, Wood was a member of the UTC Women's Basketball team. During her senior year, she was named Team Captain for the Mocs. As a leader on the team, she helped strengthen the team's sense of identity by establishing accountability partners, leading team meetings, and providing encouragement. 

She also served as the Southern Conference's representative on the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In this role, Wood encouraged fellow student-athletes within the Southern Conference to advocate for their beliefs and implement change. 

Additionally, Wood was a member of similar organizations to the SAAC, including the Women's Basketball Oversight Committee and the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group.

Wood graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Education from UTC in May 2021. She also earned her Master of Education with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UTC in December 2023.
