Caleb Poston was hired as the assistant women's basketball coach in August of 2018. The 2018-19 season will be his first under head coach Skylar Bareford.
Poston comes to Covenant after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at NCAA Division I member Xavier. While pursuing his master's degree, Poston was the video coordinator for the Musketeers women's basketball program under head coach Brian Neal. He also assisted with practices, advance scouting, and recruiting.
"I'm beyond blessed to have this opportunity to come to Covenant," Poston said. "I knew as soon as I stepped on campus this was where God wanted me to be. I look forward to a great season and can tell we have a special group of young women that are ready to work hard and have fun."
"We are really excited to be adding Caleb to our staff," Bareford said. "He brings high level experience, a commitment to serving and leading well, and a passion for using basketball to disciple young women in their faith. Through our search process this summer it became clear that Caleb was the best fit, and we are looking forward to all the positive contributions his insight and energy will bring to our program."
A 2016 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Poston gained experience as the director of basketball operations intern and as a student manager during his time as an undergraduate. Poston earned his bachelor's degree in sports administration with a minor in business.
"As a coach I want to help these young women develop and be successful on the court, but more importantly in life and in their faith," Poston added. "I'm thankful for Coach Bareford and her faith in me to help this program succeed and I can't wait to see where this journey takes us."
Added Poston "I would be remiss if I didn't thank my mentors Aaron Swinson, Patrick Klein, and Shimmy Gray Miller for all they've done to help me grow and become a better man and coach every day. I also have to thank Coach Neal and the coaching staff at Xavier for the last two years and allowing me to play a big role in the program. Lastly, I want to thank my high school coach Sean Van Winkle for getting me started on the path that has led to me coaching. Without these people, and many others, I wouldn't be in the position I'm in today."
Poston finished his master's degree in coaching education and athlete development from Xavier in May of 2018.
