Brown completed his third season as Head Coach in 2024-25.

SEASON RECAPS:
2022-23: In Brown's first year in charge, he led the Scots to a 9-17 record and a 5-7 mark in conference play in their first year in the Collegiate Conference of the South, finishing tied fifth in the league. Brown coached the CCS Rookie of the Year in Malcolm Noel and First Team All-CCS honoree Promise Igbanu. Some of Covenant's notable wins this season came at Sewanee and at home against Belhaven.

2023-24: In year two, Covenant picked up two early wins, one being at Sewanee and the other at home against MUW to start the season on the right foot. As the season progressed, the Scots dealt with injuries, relying on young players to play key roles. When it came time for the postseason, Covenant's season ended at No. 2 seed Belhaven in the CCS Quarterfinals in a tightly-contested 73-72 loss.

2024-25: Covenant more than doubled its win total in Brown's third year, as it went 9-16 and 4-8 in CCS play to finish tied fourth in the league. Brown implemented a new fast-paced offensive system that led Covenant to average 90 points a game, which ranked seventh in NCAA Division III. Two of the highlights of the season were winning the inaugural Coca-Cola Classic in Barnes Gym and sweeping conference rival, Piedmont. Brown coached the CCS Defensive Player of the Year, Pierce Smith, and First Team honoree, Logan Patterson.

Josh Brown was named the 17th head coach in Covenant men's basketball program history in April 2022.

Brown spent the previous three seasons as the lead assistant at Covenant for head coach Neal Young.

"I am grateful to Dr. Sceggel, Dr. Brad Voyles, and President Halvorson for entrusting me with this opportunity to lead the Covenant Men's Basketball program," said Brown. "Covenant is a special place, and I am looking forward to pouring into our young men as they grow towards Christ. I am thrilled to continue the momentum of excellence we have built on the mountain.

"I want to also thank my wife, Haley, for her support through our years in my coaching journey. She is my rock and has played a huge part in us being where we are at Covenant."

"As we conducted a search for the next basketball coach, I'm thrilled that Josh has accepted our offer to step into this role," said Sceggel. "He embodies all that we are looking for as he has a heart for discipleship and a strong commitment to pursuing excellence. Josh has been well prepared on both fronts, and I'm looking forward to how God will use him in this role."

Serving as the top assistant for Neal Young's staff the last three seasons, Brown was a part of three winning campaigns and two USA South West Division championships. During his time as an assistant, Brown aided the Scots to 43 victories and coached six All-USA South selections. This year, Covenant set a program record for winning percentage (.720) as the Scots finished 18-7 overall and earned the No. 1 seed in the USA South Tournament.

"Being at Covenant for the past three years has allowed me to develop meaningful relationships with our current players and athletic staff," said Brown. "Having these established relationships will help continue the momentum of discipleship, recruiting, and excellence in the men's basketball program.

"My goal is to continue to fine-tune our culture and cultivate a servant-leadership mentality amongst our team. Most importantly, I want my guys to leave Covenant loving Christ more, loving each other, and leaving a lasting legacy in the program."

Before Covenant, Brown spent two seasons as an assistant coach at NAIA member Northwestern Ohio where he assisted in all aspects of daily operations within the program. Prior to Northwestern Ohio, Brown was an assistant coach at Mount Vernon Nazarene for two years as he completed his master's degree.

Brown's coaching experience began in his undergraduate days at Urbana University as he conducted preseason workouts and assisted in practices and analysis during his senior year in the program. He was a three-year player at Urbana and appeared in 80 games, making 42 starts. Brown also ran cross country at Urbana and produced one of the top-five 5k times in program history.

Brown graduated from Urbana in 2015 with a degree in mathematics and adolescent young adult education. He earned a master's degree in organizational management from Mount Vernon Nazarene in 2017.

He and his wife, Haley, have three children. Haley is a volunteer assistant coach for the Covenant softball program.
