CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- A new cross country season has arrived! This weekend Covenant College hosted the 4th annual Mountainside Stride at Woodland Baptist Church. The women's team placed first overall with a score of 34 points and the men placed second behind a strong Berry squad with a score of 48 points.
Sophomore Sarah Vannoy led the charge for the Scots with a first place finish in a time of 24:17 over 6 kilometers. Other top 10 finishes for the Scots were Evangelia Berry, (6th place, 25:56) Ella Potoshnick, (7th place, 25:59) and Evie Fikkert, (8th place, 25:59) This was the first collegiate race for both Potoshnick and Fikkert.Â
Helping the women's team seal the victory were Emerson Tillery (12th, 26:28), Talia Carrillo (13th, 26:53) and Kenzi Stapleton (14th, 26:54).
Additionally, the women beat Berry College who was picked 7th in the USTFCCCA's preseason regional rankings, making a huge early season statement.Â
Freshman Hudson Casto was the top finisher for the men at 4th place finish in a time of 20:23 over 6 kilometers. Senior Aidan DeVries, (7th, 20:39) and sophomore Jack Miller (8th, 20:47) rounded out the top 10 finishes for the Scots.Â
Jack Dupree (13th, 21:19), Caleb Koerber (16th 21:38), Nate Headley (17th, 21:38), and Sam Richards (18th, 21:41) also contributed to the team score that brought a win against a competitive Sewanee team.Â

Next week the Scots travel to Dalton, Ga. to compete in the Saturday Night Lights meet hosted by Dalton State.
