LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant softball faced No. 21 Belhaven on Saturday, and the Blazers proved too much, as the Scots fell by 10-2 scores in both games.
GAME ONE: No. 21 Belhaven 10, Covenant 2 (6 innings)
The Scots hung with the Blazers for the first few innings, but could not keep pace, ultimately falling 10-2 in game one.
Gracie Lacle secured a pair of hits, while
Megan Porras drove in the lone RBI of the day.Â
Following Belhaven's opening run in the first, a Blazer error helped the Scots tie it in the bottom of the frame. and then after four more Belhaven runs, Porras singled in
Charley Clark from third to make it 5-2 after three.
However, the Blazer offense and Macy Funderburk (4-3) proved too tough, as the Scots managed just one baserunner the remainder of the contest.
Melissa Lopera went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBis to head up Belhaven's offense, while Funderburk got the win for her 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. Clark (3-10) struck out three in her six innings.
GAME TWO: No. 21 Belhaven 10, Covenant 2 (6 innings)
A similar story to game one unfolded in game two, as the Blazers gradually pulled away from the Scots, winning again by a 10-2 score in game two.
Six different players recorded hits for Covenant in game two:
Gracie Lacle,
Madison Taylor,
Cassidi Phillips,
Charley Clark,
Cailey Barnett, and
Megan Porras, with Clark and Barnett driving in the two runs.
The Scots once again found a way to come back early after falling behind 2-0, as Clark and Barnett recorded RBI singles in the first to tie it at two.
However, Macy Funderburk (5-3) entered again and held the Scots to just one hit over 5.1 innings of work, with Phillips the lone Scot who reached base against her.
The Blazer offense took it from there, scoring eight unanswered to take the win, behind Ellie Williamson's 3-for-4, two RBI game.
Elizabeth Yother (7-7) struck out five Belhaven players in her six innings of work.
