LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant baseball was outslugged by LaGrange in their Saturday doubleheader, falling 21-7 and 14-9 at the Covenant baseball field.
GAME ONE: LaGrange 21, Covenant 7 (7 innings)
The Scots fell behind early and could not come back, falling 21-7 in game one.
Elliott Eastin collected a pair of hits and three RBIs to lead the team in both categories, while
Sam Cecil added two RBIs as well.
The Panthers jumped on the board first in the second with three runs, but Eastin responded in the bottom of the second with his two-RBI single to make it 3-2.
However, the LaGrange offense delivered a gut punch 10-run third inning, making it 13-3 in a blink.
Covenant tried to bounce back, scoring four in the bottom of the third thanks to a two-RBI single from Cecil and RBIs from
Drew Avant and
Ezra Finton, but it ultimately was not enough, as the Panthers piled on in the late innings.
Jorge Fragoso went 4-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the LaGrange offense, while Tryston Merson (5-1) got the complete game win.
Adkin Finch (3-2) was handed the loss.
GAME TWO: LaGrange 14, Covenant 9
In a game that came down to the bullpens once again, the Scots could not hold off LaGrange's offensive attack in the late innings, falling 14-9 in game two.
Daniel Bell had a 2-for-5, three RBI day at the plate, while
Roby McClarnon scored four runs and had two hits.
The Panthers again scored first in game three of the series, getting two runs in the first, but Covenant responded with two in their first two frames to tie it, the second coming on a
Luke Carter homer.
Following three more LaGrange runs in the third, the Scots scored six between the third and fourth innings to take their first lead of the doubleheader, with
Nate Jones' RBI bunt single providing the go-ahead run.
Ezra Finton, notably, tied things up after tripling in two and later scoring on a wild pitch.
However, in the seventh, the Panthers offense struck for the final time, as an eight-run frame put the game out of reach.
Curt Bonner went 4-for-6 with seven RBIs to pace LaGrange offensively, while Blake Myers (2-3) got the win on the mound.
