Bottom Half of Singles Lineup Clutch in Men's Tennis' Two Wins

FAYETTEVILLE, NC. - Covenant traveled to Eastern North Carolina to play two matches in Fayetteville, playing a thrilling match with the Monarchs of Methodist, rallying for a 4-3 win, and then took control early and never looked back as they earned a routine 6-1 win over Guilford.

MATCH ONE: Covenant 4, Methodist 3

The Scots played a thrilling match with the Monarchs of Methodist in match one, rallying for a 4-3 win.

Methodist struck first in doubles as Kofi Bowe and Billy Johnson took down Gavin Patton and Lincoln Shine 6-1 at number three. The Scots bounced back at number one as Ben Onufrock and Caleb Domkowski dominated Harry Crokam and Aaron Zoubek 6-2.

The Monarchs secured the doubles point, however, as Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner came back from an early break to win 6-4 against Graham Hayes and Brock Boehling.

Covenant evened the match at 1-1 as Domkowski cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Crokam at line two. Methodist responded as Rayner defeated Boehling 7-5, 6-3 at number four singles.

Methodist extended their lead as Zoubek beat Hayes in the number three match by a score of 6-2, 7-6(4). The win put Methodist one match away from victory.

Onufrock started the Scots comeback in the one slot as he knocked off Hurley 6-3, 6-7(6), 10-5 to keep the Scots alive. Patton continued the Scots momentum at number five as he saved two match points to earn a 5-7, 7-6(2), 11-9 win to even the match a 3-3.

After Patton's win, all eyes turned toward the number six singles match between Shine and Christian Tihanovich. Shine took the first set, 6-4, while Tihanovic took the second 7-5, to set up another high stakes third set tiebreak.

After saving multiple match points, Shine was able to prevail 13-11 in the tiebreak to give the Scots an unforgettable victory.

MATCH TWO: Covenant 6, Guilford 1

The Scots took control early and never looked back as they earned a routine 6-1 win in match two over Guilford.

Jacob Eldridge and Cameron Erb were the first doubles team off court as they took down Alex Brown and Christopher Kelley 6-0 at number three. Ben Onufrock and Caleb Domkowski clinched the doubles point as they beat Andreas Mercedes and and Emmanuel Oye 6-1 at number one.

The Scots finished the doubles sweep as Graham Hayes and Brock Boehling beat George Hardie and Turner Johnson 6-0 at number two.

Guilford evened the score behind an impressive performance from Mercedes as he beat Onufrock 6-1, 6-0 at number one. Domkowski regained the lead for Covenant as he beat Oye 6-2, 6-0. Hayes put on a dominant performance at number three as he knocked off Hardie 6-0, 6-2.

The Scots clinched the match at number four as Boehling defeated Brown 6-1, 6-0 at number four. Eldridge held down the five slot as he beat Johnson 6-1, 6-1. Jackson Nance was inserted in the number six slot as he took down Kelley 6-0, 6-0 to cap off an impressive performance from the Scots.

The Scots head to Orlando and begin their Spring Break trip with a match against Transylvania at noon on Saturday.
