JACKSON, Miss. -- Covenant men's basketball's season ended in the CCS quarterfinals on Tuesday evening, as they fell 113-77 at Rugg Arena in Jackson.
Four Scots reached double figures in scoring on the night, led by
Noah Pence off the bench with 14.
Luuk Dusek added 13, while
Ethan Parker and
Jake Stephens had 10.
Also,
Pierce Smith recorded a block, a significant one in that he now holds the official distinction of the most blocks in a single season in CCS and Covenant history with 81.
The Scots kept it close in the first half, getting some quick scoring bursts from Stephens, Dusek, and Pence, but then the Blazers rattled off 17 straight to go up by 19 with 5:25 remaining in the half.Â
Belhaven kept adding to their lead with a stretch from the end of the first half into the beginning of the second half, leading by 32 with 16:11 to play.
A subsequent 11-2 stretch from Covenant's
Thomas Malcolm, Pence and Dusek tried to get it back within striking distance, but that would be as close as things would get the rest of the way.
The Scots finish the season 8-18 (3-9 CCS), but had Smith earn the CCS Defensive Player of the Year and All-CCS first team, while senior
Logan Patterson earned All-CCS Second Team honors and
Thomas Malcolm was named to the CCS All-Sportsmanship team.
