Volleyball Secures Senior Day Win In Four

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Covenant volleyball honored their seven-member senior class with a four-set win against Maryville, taking the final three sets to earn the victory at Barnes PE Center on Saturday evening.

The senior class featured student assistant coach Katey Dukes, along with players Cali Sandhoff, AnaClara Maik, Sarah Jennings, Delaney Stirm, Scarlett Martz, and Kennedy Barber. All played a role in the win, as each gained an appearance on the floor and contributed in their own ways.

Cali Sandhoff was the main highlight, as her 13-kill, 23-assist, 11-dig match gave her sole possession of the program record for career triple-doubles, as she now possesses eight for her career. Aubrianna Gerdes added 13 kills, while Evy Hammer assisted on 26 attacks and Henley Gentry dug out 20 attacks.

After shaking off some senior day jitters in the first set, the Scots (26-3) awoke in the second set, using a 5-1 run midway through to take a four-point lead, with Avery Maiden and Martz earning kills in that stretch. Martz later closed out the set with a kill to tie the match at one set apiece with a 25-22 win.

A 6-2 run early on set the tone for the third set, as Sandhoff picked up two kills and an ace, with Gerdes supplying the other three points on kills. After watching their 23-18 lead evaporate, Covenant found a groove when it mattered, getting a kill from Martz and a block from Gerdes and Gabby Sumrall to win, 25-23.

With the momentum swinging in their favor, they capitalized, taking six of the first seven points and then using a 8-1 run midway into the set to take a 17-10 lead, with Maiden securing three kills in the process. Fittingly, following an extension of their lead to eight, Stirm ended the match with a kill to take the set, 25-17, and the match.

Ruby Walton led the way for Maryville with 16 kills, while Dakota Vaiese had 26 assists and Kyrah Bowles 20 digs.
