ATLANTA, Ga. - After having a week off after the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, Covenant returned to the court this afternoon with a road test at No. 8 Emory. The match represents a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Tournament first round tilt that the Eagles won.
As it was in November of last year, it was Emory (8-2) who earned the victory in a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-13, 25-14). The Eagles went up big quickly in the first two sets to earn straight-forward wins. In the third set, Covenant (4-6) pushed the home team a little harder before a late run by Emory ensured the sweep.
A notable stat in Emory's favor today was in service aces, totaling 13 to Covenant's one. The Eagles also had 38 kills while the Scots tallied 27. Covenant held its own with Emory in digs trailing just 31-27 in that regard.
Cali Sandhoff posted seven kills and seven assists to lead the Covenant offense. Amber Snook was in double-figures in assists with 13.
The loss moves Covenant to 3-20 all-time against Emory.
UP NEXT: Covenant begins CCS play on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Maryville.
