Scots End Nonconference Play With a Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Covenant took on Greenville looking to pick up its first win of the season. The Scots finally got over the hump as they delivered on an exciting 2-1 win in front of their home crowd.

Final: Covenant 2, Greenville 1
Records: Covenant (1-6-1), Greenville (2-5-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Scots had four good-looking shot attempts early in the game from Georgie Strawbridge but failed to convert, leaving the game tied.
  • Early in the first half, the Panthers looked as if they were about to take the lead, but goalkeeper Bronwyn Kickasola made an incredible save with her right foot to keep the game even.
  • Covenant scored first at the 31-minute mark as sophomore Tess Duble netted her first career goal by slipping an outside shot right through the hands of the Panthers' goalie, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. Campbell Ayres delivered the assist.
  • Greenville answered just a minute before the end of the half, as Sarina Castillo scored off of a well-placed corner kick.
  • Covenant had outshot Greenville 5-4 at the half.
  • At the 54-minute mark, Strawbridge put the Scots in the lead as she rebounded her own shot, giving them a 2-1 lead.
  • With just a few minutes remaining, Greenville missed out on a golden opportunity when Kickasola saw a shot bounce off her chest. However, no Panthers were in the area, and Kickasola was able to recover.
  • Covenant then ran out the remainder of the clock unscathed.
