ATLANTA, Ga. - Covenant closed out opening weekend on the road at Emory, looking to defeat the Eagles for the second year in a row. Emory had other ideas, using two goals in quick succession to earn the victory at the Sonny Carter Invitational.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- In the 18th minute, the Eagles nearly took the lead as Josh Grand smashed the right goalpost with a shot.Â
- Neither of the goalkeepers had to make a save in the final 30 minutes of the first half.Â
- At the intermission, Emory had outshot Covenant 9-3.Â
- Whitt Tisdale scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Jackson Bostrom in the 52nd minute to put Covenant in front.Â
- Covenant's lead lasted for just under four minutes before Owen Clark equalized for Emory off an assist from Jack Burgess that started on a corner kick.Â
- The Eagles' attack kept pressing forward as Ignacio Cubeddu scored in the 59th minute, assisted by Josh Grand, for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.Â
- Covenant mustered two more shots the rest of the match, both of which came in the final three minutes; however, neither were on target.Â
GAME NOTES:Â
- Covenant moves to 4-9-8 all-time against Emory.Â
- Emory outshot Covenant 26-6 and had a 7-2 shots on goal advantage.Â
- The Eagles were given four yellow cards while the Scots had none.Â
- Emory had a much higher foul count at 14-3.Â
- Corner kicks were in favor of the Eagles 11-2.Â
- J.T. Gard played the final 31 minutes in goal and tallied three saves.
- After the match, Tisdale, Bostrom, and Daniel Wallis were named to the Sonny Carter Invitational All-Tournament Team.
