Scots Tally Season-High 18 Hits To Beat Ferrum

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Covenant started a weekend series with Ferrum on Friday night and found itself trailing the Panthers most of the night. However, as it did on Tuesday against Sewanee, the Scots showed resilience and rallied to come out on top.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sam Cecil's RBI double and Benjamin Johnson's RBI single in the first inning put the Scots ahead 2-0.
  • The Panthers didn't flinch as they scored four runs in their first at-bats to take the lead.
  • A solo home run from Carlos Castillo to left-center field for Ferrum put it ahead 5-2.
  • Covenant drew back within one run in the third inning as Luke Carter and Nate Jones each had RBI doubles.
  • In the fourth inning, Castillo hit his second home run of the night, a three-run shot to left-center field to put Ferrum up 8-4.
  • Covenant answered with two runs in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI sacrifice fly from Cecil and an RBI double by Daniel Bell.
  • Ferrum went back up four runs in the sixth inning using an RBI single and an RBI double to do so.
  • In the seventh inning, it was Covenant's turn to hit the long ball, as Zeke Gilbert blasted a two-run home run to left-center field to make it 10-8.
  • Covenant had its eighth-inning rally start with an infield error by Ferrum that allowed a run to score.
  • Cecil, Gilbert, and Bell each delivered extra-base hits that scored four more runs and put Covenant ahead 13-10.
  • Castillo came up to the plate again in the bottom of the frame and hit his third home run, luckily for the Scots it was just a solo shot.
