MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Covenant took on Maryville in a doubleheader today to conclude their three-game series. Covenant could not take down the home team in either matchup as Maryville continued its league-leading conference campaign. 

Game 1 Final: Covenant 3, Maryville 7
Records: Covenant (13-18, 2-12 CCS), Maryville (24-8, 10-1 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Covenant had a chance to score in the first inning with runners on second and third base with two outs, however a groundout to third base ended the threat. 
• Colin Dunworth blasted a solo home run to right field to put Maryville ahead in the first inning.
• In the second inning, an RBI triple to right field for Maryville extended its lead to 2-0.
• Neither team scored in the third and fourth innings. 
• Sam Cecil tied the game in the fifth inning with a 2-RBI single through the left side. 
• Later in the frame, Covenant took the lead as Ben Johnson delivered an RBI single up the middle.
• With the bases loaded in the seventh inning, Maryville scored a run to tie the game on a wild pitch. 
• A pair of 2-RBI singles for Maryville in the eighth inning put it up 7-3 and proved to be the dagger for Covenant.
• Covenant was retired in order in the ninth inning.

GAME NOTES:

• RHP Scotty Smith (6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HBP) took a no decision as Covenant's starting pitcher. 
• RHP Jonathan Glover (1.1 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) was given the loss, pitching in relief of Smith.
• Cecil (2-for-4, 2 RBI) led the Covenant offense with two hits. 
• Each team had nine hits.
• Maryville committed one error while Covenant had none.

Game 2 Final: Covenant 1, Maryville 11
Records: Covenant (13-19, 2-13 CCS), Maryville (25-8, 11-1 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Each team was held at bay in the first two innings as the score remained tied at zero.
• In the third inning, Maryville went ahead 3-0 after an RBI single and a two-run home run from Ashton Whiteaker.
• Josh McCaskill drove in what would be Covenant's lone run in the fourth inning with an RBI double down the third-base line.
• Maryville made it 4-1 in the fourth inning with an RBI single to second base. 
• Covenant gifted Maryville two runs in the fifth inning with an infield error with two outs. 
• In the sixth inning, Maryville extended its lead to 7-1 with an RBI single through the right side. 
• Four runs on four hits and two walks pushed Maryville ahead 11-1 in the eighth inning to put the mercy rule in effect. 

GAME NOTES:

• Covenant moves to 15-31 all-time against Maryville.
• RHP Ethan Goebert (5.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 4 K) took the loss for Covenant on the mound. 
• RHP Zach Barrett (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 K) was efficient in relief for Covenant. 
• Covenant was outhit 13-7 with all of Covenant's seven hits coming from seven different players.
• Covenant committed three errors while Maryville had one.
