PEARL, Miss. - The Scots started its third CCS series of the year, making the trip down south to take on Belhaven in a doubleheader. Throughout the day, Covenant struggled to get the clutch hits as Belhaven took both games to begin the weekend.Ā
Game 1 Final: Covenant 0, Belhaven 8
Records: Covenant (12-10, 2-5 CCS), Belhaven (15-9, 4-3 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Blazers took the lead in the second inning using an RBI single through the right side to score the run.Ā
- Later in the inning, Belhaven loaded the bases with no outs, however RHP Bryce Bollinger retired the next three batters to keep Covenant down just one run.Ā
- Covenant had at least one hit in each of the first five innings, but were unable to convert any of those hits into runs.Ā
- Once again Belhaven loaded the bases in the fourth inning with no outs, and once again Bollinger managed to get out of the jam with no damage done, this time with the help of two strikeouts.Ā
- In the fifth inning, Belhaven got back on the scoreboard, using a pair of RBI groundouts to move ahead 3-0.
- A few batters later, a three-run home run down the left-field line by Blake McCarthy put the Blazers up 6-0.Ā
- In the eighth inning, the Scots had runners at the corners and two outs, however a pop out ended the threat.
- Belhaven scored its seventh and final run in the eighth inning with an RBI single to right field.
GAME NOTES:
- Bollinger (6 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP) took the loss on the mound, moving to 4-2 on the season.Ā
- RHP Christian Vander Veen (2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) pitched in relief of Bollinger in the seventh and eighth innings.Ā
- The Scots had four players with two hits: Roby McClarnon (2-for-4), Daniel Bell (2-for-4), Benjamin Johnson (2-for-4), and Hudson Couch (2-for-3).
- Both teams had 11 hits and no errors defensively.Ā

Game 2 Final: Covenant 0, Belhaven 4
Records: Covenant (12-11, 2-6 CCS), Belhaven (16-9, 5-3 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- RHP Scotty Smith alongside Belhaven starting pitcher Colton Sylvester were dealing early on as through four innings no runs were scored.Ā
- A few errors by the Covenant defense allowed Belhaven to plate a run in the fifth inning and take the lead.Ā
- Belhaven scored another run in the sixth inning with an RBI single through the right side.Ā
- Covenant had two runners on base and no outs in the seventh but three retired batters in a row, including two strikeouts, kept it scoreless.Ā
- A pair of RBI doubles by Belhaven in the bottom of the frame made it 4-0.Ā
- Nate Jones hit a triple in the ninth inning, but that's all the Scots could put together late.Ā
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 3-6 all-time against Belhaven.
- Smith (6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound.Ā
- RHP Jake Schock (2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 K) pitched in relief of Smith.Ā
- Jones (3-for-3, 1 BB) tallied three hits to lead the Covenant offense.Ā
- Covenant was outhit 11-7.
- Belhaven had no errors while Covenant had five.Ā
