Women's Tennis Advances to CCS Championship Match

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Covenant started its run in the 2024 CCS Tournament with a battle with Maryville. Despite falling 2-1 in doubles, Covenant dominated singles to advance to the Championship match.

Final: Covenant 5, Maryville 2
Records: Covenant (11-8, 6-1 CCS), Maryville (12-9, 5-2 CCS)

DOUBLES:

  • Addi Gunyon and Lauren Carr secured an important point for Covenant in the No. 1 slot with an 8-2 win over Elizabeth Swhaiko and Katelyn Cook. 
  • Angel Traylor and Macy Matson narrowly fell to Abby Diggs and Alyssa Smith 6-8 in the No. 2 position.
  • It was the same fate for Dani Rappuhn and Alexis Baker who also lost 6-8 to Mia Brown and Mandy Webb in the final doubles match.

SINGLES: 

  • Gunyon earned her second win of the day in the No. 1 position, taking down Brown 6-1, 6-0.
  • Carr also had a two-point day for the Scots, defeating 6-4, 6-0 Shwaiko in the No. 2 position. This was the match that clinched the win for Covenant.
  • Matson bounced back from her singles loss with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win over Cook in the No. 3 slot. 
  • The No. 4 ranked match did not finish. Baker was up a set over Smith at the time the match was called.
  • The No. 5 ranked match also did not finish. Traylor was up 7-6, 1-2 over Diggs at the time the match was called. 
  • Rappuhn played a near perfect match, taking down Josie McRae 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 position.

UP NEXT: Covenant takes on top-seeded Piedmont tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in the Conference Championship match.
