Covenant Walks-Off Agnes Scott on Senior Day

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant hosted Agnes Scott on its Senior Day, needing two wins to make the CCS Tournament. The Scots struggled in game one, but they did end the day on the right note with a walk-off win over the Scotties in game two.Ā 

Game 1 Final: Covenant 5, Agnes Scott 13
Records: Covenant (7-24, 4-11 CCS), Agnes Scott (13-23, 6-9 CCS)Ā 

HOW IT HAPPENED:Ā 

  • Six hits, and one error led to Agnes Scott jumping on Covenant for five runs in the first inning.Ā 
  • Three more runs for Agnes Scott in the third inning made it 8-0.Ā 
  • Mary Elaine MItchell got Covenant on the board with a RBI triple to left-center field in the third inning.Ā 
  • A RBI double by Helena Nagy and a RBI single from Oliva Stefl later in the frame put the score at 8-3.
  • Agnes Scott added two more runs in the fourth inning with a pair of RBI singles.Ā 
  • Covenant responded as Mitchell delivered a RBI double before Nagy produced a run with a RBI single.Ā 
  • The first four runners of the fifth inning all reached base for Agnes Scott as it scored three runs to make it 13-5.
  • Stefl led off the fifth inning with a double, but the Scots could not drive her home as the mercy rule was in effect.Ā Ā 

GAME NOTES:

  • Agnes Scott outhit Covenant 16-7.
  • Covenant committed three errors while Agnes Scott had two.Ā 
  • Mitchell, Nagy, and Stefl each had two hits.

  • Agnes Scott took the lead in the first inning with a 2-RBI single up the middle.Ā 
  • Makenna Dance tied the game at two in the third inning with a 2-RBI double to left-center field.Ā 
  • The next batter was Ashlyn Gaines and she delivered another 2-RBI double for Covenant to put it in front 4-2.Ā 
  • Taylor Murdock made it 5-2 in the fourth inning with a RBI single to left field.Ā 
  • Agnes Scott added a run in the fifth inning via a RBI groundout.Ā 
  • In the sixth inning, a wild pitch and a RBI sacrifice fly for Agnes Scott tied the game at five.Ā 
  • Agnes Scott took the lead in the seventh inning on back-to-back RBI singles.Ā 
  • With two outs, Nagy tied the game with a 2-RBI single to right-center field.Ā 
  • Murdock then delivered the game-winning hit, a RBI single to left-center.Ā 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 21-10 all-time against Agnes Scott.Ā 
  • Covenant outhit Agnes Scott 11-9.
  • Covenant committed two errors while Agnes Scott had none.Ā 
  • Nagy led the team with three hits while Murdock, and Gaines each had two.Ā 
  • Murdock (7 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 4 BB, 5 K) threw a complete game to earn the win.Ā
