LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - On a perfect afternoon for Softball, Covenant hosted Birmingham-Southern for a doubleheader. As they did just under a month ago on the road, the Scots were swept by the Panthers.
Game 1 Final: Covenant 1, Birmingham-Southern 9
Records: Covenant (3-12), Birmingham-Southern (11-8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- What turned out to be Covenant's lone run of the game, came in the first inning on a RBI single up the middle from Mary Elaine Mitchell that scored Helena Nagy.
- With two outs in the third inning, BSC tied the game with a RBI single through the left side.
- The Panthers did more damage with two outs in the fourth inning as a RBI double to left-center gave them a 2-1 lead.
- A pair of RBI singles in the fifth inning for BSC increased its lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning.
- Ashlyn Gaines got on base with two outs on a double to left-center field in the bottom of the frame, but the Scots were unable to bring her home.
- A five-run inning in the seventh, capped off by a 3-run home run for the Panthers put the score at 9-1.
- The Scots loaded the bases in their final at bat, but couldn't get any runners across to score.
GAME NOTES:
- BSC outhit Covenant 13-6.
- The Scots had one error while the Panthers had none.
- Gaines (2-for-4) and Mitchell (2-for-3, 1 RBI) were Covenant's leading hitters.
- Starting pitcher Mackenzie Kirby moved to 1-3 on the year (6.2 IP, 13 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K).
Game 2 Final: Covenant 1, Birmingham-Southern 3

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Panthers put pressure on the Scots early on, as a 2-RBI single up the middle put them ahead in the first inning.
- Covenant got on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a RBI infield single for Taylor Murdock that scored pinch-runner Gracie Lacle.
- After giving up two runs in the first, Murdock, who was the starting pitcher for Covenant, held BSC scoreless for four consecutive innings.
- The Panthers tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning to make it 3-1 via a RBI double to left field.
- Covenant put one runner on base in the sixth inning and were retired in order in the seventh inning.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 3-24 all-time against Birmingham-Southern.
- BSC had the advantage in hits, 5-4.
- The Panthers committed one error while the Scots were error-free in game two.
- Murdock did what she could offensively to help her on the mound as she had a 2-for-3 day with 1 RBI.
- In the circle, Murdock threw her second complete game of the season (7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 HBP).
UP NEXT: Covenant has its CCS home opener on Saturday at noon with a doubleheader against No. 8 Belhaven.
