Box Score LAGRANGE, Ga. - Right after defeating Piedmont earlier in the week, Covenant traveled to LaGrange looking to take down another team up near the top of the CCS standings. A strong first quarter gave the Scots some hope, but the Panthers were ultimately too much for them tonight.
Final: Covenant 58, LaGrange 78
Records: Covenant (6-15, 3-9 CCS), LaGrange (16-6, 10-3 CCS)
FIRST QUARTER:
- After LaGrange made two free throws to score the first points, Breezy Savage responded with a 3-pointer to put Covenant in the lead.
- Megan Rouse drained a pair of layups on back-to-back offensive possessions for the Scots to keep the hot start offensively going.
- Midway through the quarter, Covenant led 12-10 after Abby Witt made a layup.
- Rouse continued to find success as she converted a 3-point play to keep Covenant in front 18-15.
- Rilee Smith buried a triple with 25 seconds left to put the score at 21-15.
SECOND QUARTER:
- Karis McIntosh had the first points of the quarter with a layup assisted by Lucy Benson.
- A 7-0 run for LaGrange cut Covenant's lead to 23-22.
- LaGrange took the lead with 2:52 remaining on an inside basket.
- A 4-0 run to end the quarter capped off by a 3-point play inside with five seconds remaining put LaGrange in front 32-27.
THIRD QUARTER:
- LaGrange scored the first five points of the quarter before Savage responded with a layup.
- Savage kept scoring to keep Covenant in the game for the time being with a pair of free throws and another layup.
- Three triples anchored an 11-0 run for LaGrange to put it ahead 54-33.
- A 3-pointer for McIntosh stopped the bleeding momentarily, however a layup seconds before the buzzer put LaGrange up 61-38 going into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
- Covenant started the quarter with four points in the opening 48 seconds with baskets by McIntosh and Witt.
- LaGrange kept answering Covenant's scoring possessions as it could not cut more into the lead.
- Emma Kaye Fuller buried her first career 3-pointer with 3:29 remaining.
- Two baskets in the final minute for LaGrange capped off a 78-58 defeat for Covenant.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant drops to 6-24 all-time against LaGrange.
- McIntosh scored 16 points to lead Covenant offensively.
- Witt tallied 10 rebounds to go along with her eight points.
- Covenant shot 44.2% (19-43) from the field while LaGrange was 42% (29-69) shooting.
- The Scots had twice as many turnovers than LaGrange at 22 to 11.
