LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Riding a three-game winning streak, Covenant took on Sewanee in a rematch of an opening-weekend contest that the Scots lost. Covenant failed to keep up with Sewanee in the first half, and that decided the outcome.Ā

FIRST HALF:
- Covenant jumped out to a 6-0 lead 40 seconds into the game with an old-fashioned 3-point play by Pierce Smith and a triple by Logan Patterson.Ā
- Sewanee responded by scoring the next 12 points to put itself ahead.Ā
- A layup by Kaleb Lofton cut the lead down to two points, but the Tigers answered with a 13-0 run to go up 25-10.Ā
- The Scots continued to struggle to get defensive stops as an inside basket for the Tigers pushed their lead to 34-14.Ā
- Covenant went scoreless for nearly four minutes starting at the 9:10 marker which led Sewanee to extend its lead to 49-22.
- The Tigers buried three triples in the final two-and-a-half minutes of the half to go into the locker room ahead 65-28.
SECOND HALF:
- The Scots came out shooting a lot better as they knocked down six 3-pointers in the first six minutes of the half, but they still trailed 81-51.Ā
- The lead still remained 31 points for the Tigers at the midway point of the half, answering every Covenant run.Ā
- A couple of free throws with 5:54 left in the game put Sewanee over the century mark at 101-74.Ā
- The Tigers final big run was 10 consecutive points to go up 113-76.Ā
- Covenant scored six of the final eight points of the game.
GAME NOTES:Ā
- Covenant moves to 13-25 all-time against Sewanee.
- Covenant's leading scorer was Patterson with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.Ā
- Luuk Dusek (13 points), Fisher Mitchell (12 points), and Adam Deininger (11 points) were also in double-figures for Covenant.Ā
- Russ Marr for Sewanee scored a game-high 35 points while Luka Avaliani had 23 points.Ā
- Covenant shot 43.1% (31-72) from the field and 29.7% (11-37) from behind the 3-point line while Sewanee was 53% (44-83) and 37.5% (9-24) in the same categories.
- The Scots struggled at the free-throw line shooting 48.3% (14-29) while the Tigers were 87.5% (21-24).Ā
- Sewanee won the rebound battle 53-36.Ā
UP NEXT: Covenant travels to Charlotte tomorrow night to take on Johnson and Wales at 5 p.m.
