Covenant Falls To Berry in Thanksgiving Week Clash

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - For its final game before Thanksgiving, Covenant hosted defending SAA Champions, Berry. In the first meeting since 2016 between the two in-state foes, an impressive second half display by the Vikings determined the outcome.

FIRST HALF:

  • Both teams started off cold offensively in the early going with only six total points scored in the first three minutes. 
  • An 8-0 run by the Vikings saw them take an 18-8 lead. 
  • The Scots slowly etched their way back with a 14-2 run with the help of six points from Logan Patterson to go up 22-20. 
  • Covenant and Berry went back-and-forth for several minutes as a fast break layup by Kaleb Lofton put his team in front 30-27. 
  • Berry was up two points late in the half before Patterson knocked down a 3-pointer with seven seconds left to send Covenant into the locker room in the lead at 40-39. 

SECOND HALF:

  • The Scots scored twice in the opening minutes on a pair of layups from Jake Stephens and Pierce Smith. 
  • Berry drilled three triples by the first media timeout to move ahead 51-46.
  • Two more 3-pointers, both by Jacob Morgan pushed Berry's lead to 10 points. 
  • With the Scots trailing by eight points, Patterson knocked down a triple and then got a tough shot to go inside and all of a sudden Covenant was within striking distance again. 
  • Over the next four minutes, Berry went on a 9-0 run to take back a commanding 88-76 lead. 
  • 10 points is as close as Covenant would get as Berry scored eight points in the final minute to extend its win to 16 points.  

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 12-12 all-time against Berry.
  • Patterson led Covenant with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with five steals. 
  • Adam Deininger was the other Covenant player in double-figures offensively with 10 points. 
  • As a team, Covenant shot 40.8% (31-76) and was 28.6% (8-28) from behind the 3-point line while Berry was 50.8% (32-63) and 40% (14-35) in the same categories. 
  • Parker Godwin from Berry led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting and 6-of-8 from downtown.
