Covenant Challenges Itself at No. 13 Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Covenant faced what will likely be its toughest test of the entire season with a road trip to the No. 13 ranked team in NCAA Division II, Lee. The Flames put it on the Scots, keeping their undefeated season alive.

FIRST QUARTER:

  • Breezy Savage drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the first four minutes, but Covenant trailed 12-6.
  • A 3-pointer by Lucy Benson followed by an inside basket by Emma Kaye Fuller cut the Lee lead to 14-11.
  • The Flames ended the quarter on an 11-0 run to go up 25-11.

 SECOND QUARTER:

  • Covenant ended the scoring run 14 seconds into the quarter with Savage earning three points the old-fashioned way. 
  • The Scots kept competing as Benson drilled another 3-pointer to put the score at 29-17.
  • Covenant then went cold offensively, scoring only three points during the final five minutes of the quarter as it trailed 46-24.

 THIRD QUARTER:

  • The Scots were outscored 34-5 by the Flames in these 10 minutes. 

 FOURTH QUARTER:

  • The Flames drilled three triples in the first four minutes to extend their lead to 89-31.
  • Oral Hall and Hannah Eidson each made a 3-pointer in the final minute for Covenant. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 7-43 all-time against Lee. 
  • Savage with 12 points and Benson with 11 points were in double-figures scoring for Covenant.
  • Fuller set a new career-high in points with eight. 
  • As a team Covenant was 28.6% (14-49) from the field and 32% (8-25) from behind the 3-point line while Lee was 47.4% (36-76) and 40% (16-40) in the same categories. 
  • The Scots committed 30 turnovers while the Flames had 10 turnovers. 

UP NEXT: Covenant is off until December 5th when it hosts Welch at home at  5:30 p.m.
