Covenant Falters Late at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Looking to add an impressive nonconference victory to its resume, Covenant took the short drive to Sewanee to battle the University of the South. The Scots played the Tigers tough for most of the match, however a late offensive outburst from the Tigers changed the narrative.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Scots had their first scoring opportunity in the 15th minute as Rachel Wall had her shot saved in the bottom left of the goal.
  • Covenant had another chance in the 33rd minute as AnnaLi Weekley put a shot on net that was saved.
  • Just a few minutes before halftime, Sewanee took a 1-0 lead as Kate Thomson scored a goal assisted by Ashlyn Richards. 
  • At the half, Sewanee had outshot Covenant 7-3.
  • Covenant keeper Bronwyn Kickasola made three saves in the first 20 minutes out of halftime, keeping her team in the game for the time being.
  • In the 74th minute, the Tigers got their second goal off the foot of Lily Reinhardtsen with Sonia Djurasovic earning the assist.
  • Less than a minute later, Sewanee made it 3-0 as Kylene Monaghan scored with Lacey Carder and Caroline Pulliam earning assists. 
  • Sewanee kept the pressure on as it added a fourth and fifth goal in the final 15 minutes of the game.

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 6-9-2 all-time against Sewanee.
  • Sewanee had a higher shot count at 22-5 and a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Sewanee had six corner kicks while Covenant had one. 
  • Covenant committed 10 fouls while Sewanee had just four fouls called on it. 

UP NEXT: Covenant returns to conference play on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Wesleyan.
