Scots Hand Eagles First Conference Loss

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Current league-leaders Asbury came to campus for the first time as CCS members looking to continue its undefeated conference season. Covenant had other plans as it rallied behind a great crowd to sweep the Eagles.

Records: Covenant (14-12, 8-4 CCS), Asbury (15-6, 10-1 CCS)

FIRST SET:

  • Two kills in a row followed by a Covenant attack error put Asbury ahead 10-8.
  • A 4-0 run by the Scots that included a service ace by Kelsey Carman put them in the lead at 13-11. 
  • The Scots continued to extend their lead as a kill from Hannah Mathis assisted by Cali Sandhoff made it 20-15.
  • Sandhoff secured the winning kill assisted by Amber Snook at 25-19.

SECOND SET: 

  • Like the first set, the early goings were really tight as a service ace by Scarlett Martz put the score at 9-9. 
  • It was a 5-0 run on Carman's service rotation that gave the Scots some cushion at 21-18.
  • Back-to-back attack errors from Asbury ended the set at 25-22.

THIRD SET:

  • Covenant came out firing, as it led 8-1 with the help of service aces from Carman and Martz.
  • Consecutive kills from Carman extended Covenant's lead to 15-6.
  • The Scots kept attacking as two kills from Delaney Stirm with a kill from Mathis mixed in the middle made it 21-11.
  • Covenant scored the final three points to close out the set at 25-15 and the match. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 7-3 all-time against Asbury.
  • Carman led the way with a double-double posting 10 kills and tying a team-high of 10 digs. 
  • Snook with 17 and Sandhoff with 13 were both in double-digits in assists. 
  • Mathis totaled seven kills and four total blocks for the Scots.
  • Anissa Snyder reached double-figures in digs with 10. 
  • Stirm tallied seven kills and six digs for the night. 

UP NEXT: Covenant travels to LaGrange on Saturday for a tri-match with them and Piedmont. C
