Covenant Sweeps Muskingum in First-Ever Meeting

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Scots began their first of three games this weekend in Lexington with a match against Muskingum. Covenant took care of business and picked up its third 3-0 sweep of the season.

Final: Covenant 3, Muskingum 0
Records: Covenant (5-0), Muskingum (1-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Scots came out hot in the first set taking an early 9-1 lead, behind strong serving periods from Sarah Jennings and Rachel Bartlett.
  • The Muskies scrapped their way back into the set slowly and surely, eventually tying the set at 23.
  • Covenant needed 26 points, but eventually claimed the first set behind a kill from Emma Kalbfleisch and an attack error from Muskingum.
  • In the second set, Covenant scored the first three points with help from kills by Kyla Bailey and Kalbfleisch.
  • After setting the tone early on in the second set, the Scots and Muskies went back-and-forth with Covenant clinging onto an 18-15 advantage.
  • However, Covenant ended the second set similarly to how it started it with a 4-0 run, which began with a kill from the setter, Bartlett, to win 25-18.
  • Muskingum found some rhythm in the third set, as it jumped out to a 13-6 lead.
  • An 8-1 run for the Scots with the help of five attack errors, tied the set at 14.
  • Covenant finished the set on a 6-0 run to win 25-19. The run started and ended with kills from Reagan Keener.
