Covenant Rallies From Behind to Defeat Bob Jones

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Covenant returned to Scotland Yard for its home opener against Bob Jones. The Scots went down a goal in the first half, but ultimately battled back to get their first victory of the year.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Whitt Tisdale had the first big chance of the night for Covenant with a shot from outside the box in the 30th minute that hit off the crossbar.
  • The Bruins took the lead in the 34th minute on a goal from Dallas Albert that was assisted by Ian Arendse. 
  • The Scots immediately responded with a headed goal from Tyler Swinehart in the 38th minute that was assisted by Kade Theunissen off a corner kick. 
  • At the intermission, Bob Jones had 11 shots while Covenant had six.
  • Tisdale gave Covenant the lead for good in the 55th minute on a headed goal off a well-placed pass from Knox Gibson.
  • The Bruins tested Eli Honeycutt in goal a few times in the second half, but he was true to each attempt. 
  • Tisdale had a great opportunity to get his second of the game, but his shot was saved in the bottom right by the Bob Jones goalkeeper. 
  • In the final two minutes of the game, the Bruins put a dangerous long ball into the attacking box, but could not get a shot on net before Honeycutt fell on it. 

GAME NOTES: 

  • Covenant moves to 1-0 all-time against Bob Jones.
  • This is the second consecutive year Covenant has won its home opener. 
  • Swinehart's goal was the first of his collegiate career. 
  • The Scots had 19 shots with eight on target while Bob Jones had 16 with seven on target. 
  • Honeycutt made six saves in goal.
  • Covenant was assessed two yellow cards and Bob Jones had one yellow card.
  • The foul count was 10-9, Bob Jones.  

UP NEXT: Covenant will take on Lynchburg in a neutral site game at Roanoke College Friday at 5 p.m.
