Volleyball Sweeps Both Greensboro and Greenville

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Scots had their final two games of the Jenny McDowell Invitational on Saturday after winning their season opener the night before. Covenant brought its "A" game to Greensboro and Greenville, not losing a set in either match to move to 3-0 on the year. 

Game 1 Final: Covenant 3, Greensboro 0
Records: Covenant (2-0), Greensboro (0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Scots and the Pride went back-and-forth in the first set with Greensboro clinging to a 22-20 lead. 
  • Covenant responded with five consecutive points, including back-to-back kills from Emma Kalbfleisch at the end of the run to take the first set 25-22. 
  • A kill from Hannah Haerer gave Covenant an 11-7 lead in the second set. 
  • Five straight points later in the set, behind two service aces from Kyla Bailey extended the Scots lead 21-10. 
  • Two service errors from Greensboro and kills from Kennedy Barber and Bailey clinched the second set for Covenant, 25-14. 
  • Bailey had two more service aces early on in the third set as the Scots led 4-2. 
  • Covenant rode a 7-0 run with Cali Sandhoff serving to give it a 21-12 advantage in the third set. 
  • Sandhoff registered a kill for point 24 then a service error from Greensboro gave the Scots the set 25-17 and the 3-0 sweep. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 7-2 all-time against Greensboro.
  • As a team, Covenant had 33 kills while Greensboro had 21. 
  • Bailey and Haerer each had seven kills to lead the Scots. 
  • Rachel Bartlett registered a game-high 27 assists. 
  • Sarah Jennings had 12 digs while Bartlett had 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Kalbfleisch had three kills early on, as Covenant jumped out to a 10-7 advantage in set one. 
  • Back-to-back service aces from Kelsey Carman gave the Scots a 20-13 lead. 
  • An attack error from Greenville clinched the opening set 25-18 for Covenant. 
  • The beginning of the second set was tight, with the Scots and the Panthers tied at 10. 
  • A 5-0 run for Covenant with Carman serving gave Covenant a comfortable 21-14 lead. 
  • Greenville fought off two set points, but a kill from Kennedy Barber gave Covenant the second set 25-22. 
  • The Scots scored the first three points of the third set and didn't look back. 
  • Kills from Haerer and Bailey puts the Scots on top 13-6.
  • A 7-1 run from the Scots gave them 20 points and put them on the brink of victory.
  • Haerer gave Covenant the 25-12 set win and match win with a kill off a set from Bartlett. 

GAME NOTES:

  • Covenant moves to 1-0 all-time against Greenville.
  • The Scots had 46 kills while the Panthers had 29. 
  • Bailey led the team with a season-high 12 kills, while Kalbfleisch had 11. 
  • Bartlett had a season-high 38 assists. 
  • In her third collegiate game, Jennings set a new career-high in digs with 19. 

UP NEXT: The Scots have their home opener on Tuesday, Sep. 5 at 7 p.m. against Sewanee.
